03 July 1988 Iran Air Airbus A300B2-203 EP-IBU c/n 186

Flight IR655 from Bandar Abbas (BND), Iran to Dubai (DXB) with 16 crew and 274 passengers. First flight : 16 March 1982. In flight the Airbus was hit by a SAM missile, fired from US ship USS Vincennes. The Americans mistook the Airbus for an Iranian Air Force F-14 Tomcat. The Airbus crashed out of control in the Persian Gulf.

The Americans had send messages on a military frequency for identification, but this was not picked up by the Airbus crew.

Airframe hrs : 11497 engines : GE CF5-50C2. All people on board died in the crash.

location : 4 km SE of Qeshm Island +- 250m 26°43’00”N 56°02’00”E on this location debris was found floating on the sea service, by October 1988 the main wreckage was still not found.
